A Secret Location…

This entry is part 3 of 2 in the series Faerie

I am quite interested in people who have a significantly different world-view from me. Christopher Valentine is very much such a person. Watch as much of the following as you can bear.

.

He does seem to believe what he is saying – he certainly takes the trouble to write books about it so I am inclined to believe that he is sincere. He says that Elves are the keepers of wisdom (and then describes acquired knowledge which is not the same thing) and that they write everything down in books ‘that they say only they can see’.

  • Does this sound plausible to you?
  • What would it take for you to believe that these nature spirits exist?
  • Does the lack of evidence for them suggest that they probably don’t exist? You may have heard that ‘absence of evidence is not evidence of absence’. Do you think that this applies in this case?
  • To what extent should we remain open-minded or agnostic about nature spirits?

I have bamboo (a kind of grass) around the lake in my garden in France. I would love to see Elves there, or Gnomes; Goblins; Pixies; Fairies. I have bought an infra-red camera to do some research. I promise I will post any interesting videos here. If you have any thoughts about Mr Valentine, do let me know in the comments section below.

Questions…

  1. If bamboo is a kind of grass, how is it most likely to be pollinated?
  2. Assuming such a thing were even possible, what technique should I use to estimate the gnome population at the bottom of my garden?
  3. If elves are vegetarian nature spirits as Mr Valentine states, what trophic level do they occupy in their natural habitat?
  4. What does the word agnostic mean?
