More Incentives To Practise…

This entry is part 3 of 5 in the series Reasons To Practise

YouTube recommended a video to me because I had watched some nonsense or other and unusually it unearthed a gem. I love my rock music but I can be just as easily wowed by anyone performing in any field of endeavour where complete mastery is demonstrated. I was reminded of this today as my cricket team convincingly overhauled their opposition by 136 runs. A convincing win in a match only requiring 44 overs from start to finish! We had some advantages in terms of natural ability but I thought how much more valuable natural ability is when it is tied to a dedicated approach to practice.

If you want to be really good at something, natural ability will only take you so far. To excel you must practise; and practise intelligently. It is easy to watch JJP playing cricket and think it is all down to talent without appreciating the hours spent perfecting every shot; likewise one can marvel at NJP’s facility with languages and think he was just born that way not realising the time spent in patient and tiring study.

Here is someone who has definitely put the work in beforehand. Talent? Yes, in abundance, but to get this good takes total commitment. Enjoy!
