Errors In Reasoning #1…

sceptical

The above is apparently aimed at atheists but actually targets anyone who thinks that the Earth is greater than about 6000 years old. I don’t think I have ever met any theist who thinks that the Earth is only 6000 years old as implied by the Old Testament. I do understand that there are plenty of Christians, Muslims and others who take the bible/Qur’an literally, but I am quite sure that believing the world to be nearer 4.54 billion years old does not make you an atheist. Science getting the time that life has existed on Earth wrong also does not prove the existence of God, although it would lend weight to the accuracy of the bible.

More importantly, if the argument above for a young Earth is logically valid then religious beliefs are irrelvant but our scientific understanding would have to be very wrong. Does the water dilemma prove that life cannot have existed for 3 billion years?
