Chuck Berry…

I did wonder whether to go for Johnny Be Dead as the title. Or perhaps Chuck Buried. But to be frank I am really saddened by the news that a 90 year old man has died. It is hard to describe what effect his music had upon me when I heard it for the first time on Christmas Day 1978. I was nine years old and my parents Santa Claus had bought me a Chuck Berry tape and put it in my stocking (along with The Wurzels – Funky Farmyard but that is another story). I think the sound that has stuck with me the longest is the jangling noise that introduces “No Particular Place To Go”.

.

It was not until much later that I saw him perform and saw the famous duck walk which he did whilst playing his solos. This has influenced generations of performers but perhaps most famously Angus Young from ACDC. I have always loved Nadine because it was on my first tape.

.

But of course his most famous composition was Johnny B Goode. A work of genius.

Things…

At the beginning of the second video you might spot another legendary guitarist. Tell me who he is, and if I deem that you qualify, the first correct answer earns any item you like from the SFScience shop. How sweet is that?
